Produced in the Song dynasty (960-1279), this slightly globular jar has a long neck and a domed lid. It has a sculptured dragon encircling its neck and two bands of ridged strips; one at the base of the neck and another around the middle. This jar is covered with a grayish-green glaze, except for a narrow band around its footrim. This stoneware jar could be produced for the domestic market or for export as the thriving ceramic trade was established in the Song dynasty. Ceramics were exported worldwide to diverse places such as South-east Asian, the Middle East and Europe.
