Kasma Booty was born in Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia. A trained ‘bangsawan’ (theatre) actress, she made her film debut in the Shaw Brothers film ‘Chempaka’ in 1947, which started her career as a successful film actress. She left the Malay film world temporarily in 1951 to raise her family. She made a comeback in the Cathay-Keris film ‘Mahsuri’ (1958). Her last film was ‘Damaq’ (1965), which was produced by Merdeka Film Productions, before she retired as an actress. She died in 2007.
