This wooden drum with two interlocking fishes, to which the beater is attached, is gilded and painted in red and god.It is carved in black, red and gold lacquer work. Called the 'mu-yu' is it used in Chinese buddhist temples as a rhythmic accompaniment to the chanting of prayers and sutras.
