This intricately carved chair belongs to a set of four teak chairs and a round marble-top table. Furniture sets like these were typically used in Peranakan homes. Peranakan Chinese furniture were commissioned in different types of woods that included teak, 'chengal', namwood and blackwood.Many Malaccan Peranakan Chinese made furniture from wood taken from their estates. The style of this chair is common to Malacca and Singapore.
