Born in Penang, Malaysia, in 1932, Nordin Ahmad got his start as an actor at Malay Film Productions, but later moved to Cathay-Keris Productions. He starred in hit films such as ‘Serangan Orang Minyak’ (1958) and ‘Hang Jebat’ (1961). In 1964, he made his directorial debut in the film, ‘Wan Perkasa’. He went on to direct seven more films before he passed away in 1971. Like Nordin Ahmad, Mustapha Maarof also started at Shaw Brothers’ Malay Film Productions before joining the Cathay-Keris family. He starred in such films as ‘Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah’ (1959) and ‘Sri Mersing’ (1961), where he met his wife-to-be, Malay actress Roseyatimah. They were married until her death in 1987.
