This textile is known as 'phaa marn patoo'. It was used as a ceremonial door curtain. It belonged to one of the Tai Neua ethnic groups living in Northern Laos. This textile was sometimes used as a ceremonial bed cover, perhaps for a wedding.The supplementary motifs include large elephants with riders, 'nak' or river dragons, birds and monkeys.
