Tunic

This Laytu Chin tunic was woven in two sections on a backstrap loom and joined along the centre. The bands of geometric patterns at the centre were woven using commercially-dyed threads, while the white glass buttons were sewn on as decoration. The fine weaving of such tunics and the addition of imported items such as the glass buttons reflects the value put on clothing and the status conferred by items traded into the Laytu Chin community such as commercial threads and glass buttons.
