This brass round pot known as 'vibhuti patiram' or sacred ash container, is one of the ritual objects in Hindu worship. Vibhuti (sacred ash) is one of the main sacraments given at puja in all the Shaivite (worhsip of Shiva) temples. It is generally the residue of cow dung burnt in a sacred fire.In the most Tamil Hindu temples, the 'shodashopachara puja' or 16 forms of worship is customarily practised during festive occasions. The mirror, fan, flywhisk, umbrella and various types of lamps are included during the worship.
