Syonan, which means Light of the South, is the name given to Singapore during the Japanese Occupation from 1942 to 1945. This issue commemorates the first anniversary of the declaration of the Greater East Asia War, the name given to the Japanese war campaign after the Japanese began their attacks on the Western Allies in December 1941.
