This exhibit depicts a farmer handing a bottle of balm to his wife, seen on the ground after a fall. This product is the renowned Tiger Balm, a remedy for aches and pains produced by the Aw brothers – Aw Boon Haw and younger brother Aw Boon Par. The brothers went on to successfully market the product in the Southeast Asian region during the early 20th century. The elder sibling, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, established Haw Par Villa in 1937. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built with the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
