This painted celadon bottle vase with a tall cylindrical neck and bulbous body is a form known as 'youzhui ping', a design of Kangxi period. It is covered with a crackled glaze of sea-green tone. The bottle has an overall design of leafy meander with stylised dragons on the neck and body. Around the mouth rim is a 'ruyi' band. Many of monochrome ceramic wares such as this piece took their inspiration from the southern Chinese celadon tradition. Celadon is a French term that is used to refer to wares that derived their green-tone from glazes that were rich in naturally occurring iron-oxide.
