This 18th century bronze Manchu warrior's helmet is patterned with dragons and elaborate gilded ornamentation. Palace guards' suits of armor were often intricately decorated to befit the position as the protectors of the emperor and his imperial palace.Ceremonial armor such as this piece, and of those worn by the imperial household including the emperor, were derived from Ming dynasty prototypes.
