This ceremonial stem cup has a rich copper-red glaze that was developed during early 14th century. Later, the Qing potters tried to replicate the recipe but never quite achieved the same copper-red tone of the early Ming period. During the Ming dynasty, monochrome porcelain was used at the Imperial Palace for rituals and red monochromes were used to make offerings at the altar of the Sun.
