This piece of calligraphy written in Persian reads: “Because of his intimacy with the Divine Presence, the Pure Prophet (Muhammad) is sufficient as my guide.” The Qur’an mentions several times Muslims should obey God and his messenger, Prophet Muhammad. This calligraphic piece is designed and written by Mohamed Zakariya, a well-known American Muslim calligrapher. The script used is ‘nastaliq’, a favoured script in Iran and India for copying poetry and literary epics. Mohamed Zakariya also designed the illuminations framing the calligraphy using three types of gold—yellow, green and white gold.
