Brooch

‘Kerosang’ are decorative sets of brooches used as fasteners on blouses or the ‘kebaya’. They are commonly found in a set of three, although sets of up to five does exist. These are possibly made of gold and the decorative motifs are floral in nature. The lack of diamonds in this set of jewellery may suggest the weaker socio-economic position of the user as Peranakan culture in the early 20th century emphasised conspicuous consumption and the open display of wealth.
