The Arabic inscription reads – “ya Malik al-Mulk” (the Eternal Owner of Sovereign), referring to one of the 99 Beautiful Names or Attributes of God. The composition is done with silver-gilt threads embroidered on a velvet background. The design was most likely done on paper then transferred onto a piece of velvet with the help of a stencil. Such calligraphic panels were often hung in Muslim homes as an expression of one’s faith.
