The main image in the painting depicts the Vishavarupa form of Vishnu which he assumed during the Mahabharata war - in this form he displayed the entire universe. This ten-armed image has many smaller images painted within it of other gods, demons and rishis that he enveloped within his form. Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma are depicted in the top regions while Krishna is depicted on the banyan leaf. The ten incarnations of Vishnu are painted in the lower register. Two women devotees are seen standing by Vishnu's side with folded hands. The two male figures possibly represent Akrura and Vidura from the Mahabharata. In addition to these figural representations, one sees a rich, decorative floral pattern on the four corners, this is inspired by the Mughal practice of introducing heavily ornate margins borders around the painting.
