This is a brass ‘roti jala’ (web-like pancake) mould presser with three angled spouts and a perforated bottom for the ‘roti jala’ batter to seep through. The ‘roti jala’ crepe is formed by making small circles on a pan after lifting the batter-filled mould. ‘Roti jala’ is a traditional Malay cuisine eaten in the northern part of Sumatra island, as well as West Malaysia and Singapore. It is usually served with curry or ‘rendang’ (dry beef curry).
