This manuscript is the Ottoman copy of the popular prayer book, Dala'il al Khayrat, written by ‘Abd Allah Muhamad ibn Sulaiman al-Jazuli (d. 1465), a North African Sufi. Copies of the Dala’il al-Khayrat usually contain illustrations representing two of Islam's holiest cities - Mecca and Medina. Mecca is one of the most sacred places for Muslims as it is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, and the place where he received the Divine Revelations. Medina is the city where the first Muslim community was founded. The Dala’il al-Khayrat by al-Jazuli is a popular prayer book that is found in many parts of the Islamic world – from Turkey to Southeast Asia.
