This is a photograph of Victoria Memorial Hall, a complex of two buildings joined by a common passageway and an adjoining clock tower, which was installed in 1906. The architecture of the building reflects Classical and Renaissance influences, both styles adapted to suit the local tropical climate. Built in 1862, Victoria Memorial Hall, or Town Hall - as it was previously known - did not include the Memorial Hall originally. The initial blueprint gave the Town Hall a dual function, serving as a theatre on the ground floor while providing office space on the second level. The Memorial Hall had been erected only much later to commemorate the memory of Queen Victoria after she passed away in January 1901. In 1979, Victoria Memorial Hall was renamed Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, which still stands today.
