‘Tempat sireh’ (‘sireh set’) is the Malay term for a box with a set of containers used to store the various ingredients used in betel-chewing. This simple sireh set, with no engravings, comprises of an open brass box and five brass containers with lids. The containers would commonly hold ingredients such as ‘kapur’ (lime), ‘pinang’ (areca nut shavings), ‘gambir’ (gambier), ‘temaco’ (tobacco) and sireh leaves.
