This clock was used in Wak Sumang Mosque at Punggol Point. The mosque was named after a famous Javanese warrior who founded the Punggol fishing village centuries ago. It was donated by the Singapore Writers’ Movement ’50.The Singapore Writers’ Movement ’50 (Angkatan Sasterawan ’50) better known as Asas ’50 was the first literary association in post-war Malaya with a mission to “infuse literary arts into the lives of the masses and be the main literary movement in literary arts”. A significant contribution made by Asas ’50 was the introduction of the Roman letters in the Malay language. The organization actively engage national based organizations and youth to promote Malay language and literature.
