This is a photograph of the Esplanade, a long open stretch of field, around which Raffles originally designated government buildings to be built. In addition, a number of commemorative monuments were erected at the Esplanade as well, such the Cenotaph, the Tan Kim Seng Fountain and the Lim Bo Seng Memorial.
