Ocean Building, one of the prominent landmarks along the bustling seafront commercial stretch known as Collyer Quay, was originally built in 1864 for the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company. The original structure was demolished and a new building was erected in 1923. Designed by architectural firm Briggs and Thornely of Liverpool, it was built using the latest construction techniques of the day and featured classical elements such as spirals and columns in its design. This building was later demolished and redeveloped into an office and shopping complex with the same name in 1974.
