Jarlet

This jarlet is covered in brown and white glaze and decorated with a band of calligraphic designs.A wide range of glazed wares were made at the Sukhothai kilns including plates, bowls, jars, bottles, covered boxes as well as architectural fixtures. In general, the wares were decorated in underglaze brown on a heavy cream-white slip background covered with a clear, milky or slightly greenish glaze. The royal twin cities of Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai in north-central Thailand were at the heart of one of the largest ceramic-producing centres in Southeast Asia during the 14th century. Si Satchanalai was later renamed Sawankhalok and the name became a convenient if somewhat inaccurate term to refer to ceramics that originated from either of these two areas.
