This olive-green glazed bowl is freely painted with an iron-oxide decoration. Wares of this type seemed to have been made specifically for export and were produced mainly from the coastal provinces of Fujian and Guangdong. Guangdong wares of this type seemed to have been made specifically for export to the south and south-east Asian countries. This particular bowl was found in the Philippines.During the Song dynasty, export wares were manufactured mainly from the Guangdong kilns of Xicun, Chaozhou and Huizhou. The finest and the largest ceramics were made at Xicun. Guangdong Song wares varied enormously in style and material and the kilns were versatile in the production of wares that resembled Cizhou, Ding, Jizhou, Jingdezhen, Yaozhou, Yue among others.
