Apron

Lisu traditional clothing was made of hemp cloth. However, this is now replaced by commercially produced cotton and synthetic materials. The older style outfits such as this example, have simple appliquéd strips of cotton sewn on the tunic and apron. Today, younger women wear more elaborately decorated tunics with black trousers and leggings. The Lisu are speakers of a Tibeto-Burman family of languages. They migrated into northern Thailand from neighbouring regions during the 18th and 19th centuries.
