This print (lithograph) shows a Malay village in Singapore. The structures depicted here had roofs made of dried and woven attap palm and were elevated above the ground on supports made of timber or stone. The elevated structures provided protection against flooding, animals and insects. The stairs that were constructed at the front and back of the structures can also be seen in the print.
