The completion of this extension of the Raffles Library and Museum in 1916 is symbolic of Dr. R. Hanitsch's 24-year reign as head of the institution. During his tenure, the Raffles Library and Museum flourished and by the time Dr. Hanitsch retired in 1919, the building had trebled in size and the collections had expanded significantly, in addition to the vast network of scientific contacts that had been established.
