A variety of storage baskets made from woven bamboo and rattan such as this, are still used by highland communities in northern Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia today. This type of basket made by the Lahu, is used for storing rice and other food. The raised legs keep away pests and the damp. The communities in northern Thailand who make and use such baskets include the Karen, Akha, Lisu, Lahu, Hmong, and Yao who migrated from neighbouring regions during the 18th and 19th centuries.
