This amulet box is in the form of two large and two small stylised crested birds. It is decorated with a full filigree work, applied bosses and several precious stones around a central slice of agate with a similar piece of agate mounted in the crested cover. Two chains of four gilt pendant cartouches each suspend the box, and the two chains are further suspended from three thick chains of finely twisted silver wire. It was also designed with a hinge on one side which lifts up to allow access to the interior where Koranic verses and other items with amulet-like properties were kept.It could have been possibly worn around the neck of a horse during a wedding procession, but otherwise would have been used as a protective device by aristocrats and hung on the wall of their houses.
