Karen men and women carry everyday work canvas-like bags like this piece. With only narrow stripes of colour down the sides, the bags are often plain, homespun and unbleached. These days, they can be found in a variety of colours. The Karen is the largest tribal group in Thailand comprising two main divisions (the Sgaw and Pwo) and smaller sub-groups. Originally known to have come from Tibet, they migrated into Thailand from Burma during the 18th century.
