This brass kettle has a box-like hexagonal body with ornately decorated plant motifs, and a lid adorned with a bird. The kettle stands on four animal feet, which is commonly found on Minangkabau brasswares of this area. Kettles of this type with ornate decorations are known as 'ceret', and are used during ceremonial occasions.Ceret are usually made in four parts - the lid, the body, the spout and the handle. They are cast separately then soldered together.
