This relief of a couple (Mithuana), carved in red sandstone suggests the pair’s intimacy in the gentle contours of their swaying bodies of torsos, legs, heads and arms. The male gently caressing the female's chin, while the latter with her left knee bent, holds a fold of her shawl with her arm around the man’s shoulder is a sensuous yet dignified rendition. The transparency of the clothing and the fluttering sash held on to by the woman indicate the artist’s keen observation. The size and proportion of this sculpture suggest that it was placed high on the main wall of the temple sanctum.
