This is a sleeveless lace cheongsam with floral embroidery all over. It has a nipped-in waist that accentuates the figure of the wearer. In the 1950s and 1960s, cheongsams were usually worn by high-society ladies and working women. The late Mrs. Goh (mother of the donor, Mr. Goh Eck Kheng) was a teacher at Methodist Girls School, located at Mount Sophia. Most teachers would wear cheongsams to school as it was the formal and respectable attire for teachers then.
