This is a simple long-sleeved, calf-length cheongsam decorated with floral embroidery all over. The flap on the right-hand side is secured by press studs. This belonged to Mrs. Goh, the late mother of the donor, Mr. Goh Eck Kheng. She was a teacher at Methodist Girls’ School, which was then located at Mount Sophia in Singapore. Mrs. Goh, like most teachers, would wear a cheongsam to school up till the 1960s, as it was still the formal dress for Chinese women in Singapore and Hong Kong. This cheongsam seen here was acquired when she was teaching at Anglo Chinese School in Hong Kong.
