This pendant is of a 1907 American gold coin with a frame of a pair of birds soldered to it. Such pendants would either be hung on a chain and used as a necklace or strung together with two other such coins to form a set of brooches (kerosang).The use of currency as jewellery was a signifier of wealth for many Peranakan Chinese and the aesthetics of such coins were very appealing.
