Bangles and bracelets were known to the Peranakans as 'gelang tangan' in baba Malay. Nonyas (or Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions. Some of the most exquisite jewellery was to be used during the Peranakan wedding ceremony. Aside from bangles, their accessories include anklets, pendants, earrings, belts and buckles, rings, 'kerosang' (set of brooches on blouse) and hairpins.
