During World War II, or the Greater East Asia War as the Japanese called it, the Japanese Imperial Government issued war bonds to fund its war effort. This beautifully printed bond certificate has an ornate border with vignettes of a ship on the left and a tank on the right. The stamp on the top left corner commemorates the first anniversary of the Greater East Asia War, which, ignoring the war with China, was considered to have started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor and Manila and the invasion of Malaya.
