This colourful silk and cotton two-panel door hanging or curtain (phaa kang) is woven with three different coloured continuous wefts (horizontal threads). A secondary warp holds down two colours, so only one colour surfaces at a time. It is framed with plain fabric with loops with which to hang it.The Tai community comprises many related groups who live in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. They are thought to have migrated out of southwest China since ancient times. Similarities in their woven textile traditions continue to reflect historical interrelationships between these groups and others in the region.
