In 1965, Lee Kuan Yew made three public speeches from 24 February to 3 March in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban and Melaka, promoting the concept of a Malaysian Malaysia. He stressed that a Malaysian Malaysia would concentrate on the well-being of people from all races rather than just one community. However, the central government perceived these speeches as an attack on Malay special rights, which was already a sensitive issue at the time.
