This apron comprises a panel of multi-coloured cloth squares with designs appliquéd onto a red ground and set against an indigo-dyed cloth backing. The lower half is edged with plastic beads. The belt is a light blue material with appliquéd triangles in various colour combinations and short strings of beads.This item belongs to a set of Lolo female garments that include an elaborate cotton headcloth, a jacket and indigo trousers with appliqué patterns. These clothes were made perhaps more recently.The Lolo are Tibeto-Burman language speakers who migrated to Vietnam during the 17th-20th centuries. They practice wet-rice cultivation, ancestor worship and have a pictographic script. They also play bronze drums during funeral rituals.
