Pair of repoussé gold sheet bracelets

With swirling designs on cartouches, this pair of gold sheet bracelets is made by repoussé. It has also been suggested that these bodily ornaments were not meant to be worn at the wrists, but rather on the ankles, because of the method which the bracelets are fastened. These bracelets are made up of two separable halves joined to each other by a hook at one juncture, and insertion at the other. These bracelets belong to the Indo-Javanese period in Java, when Javanese jewellery are highly ornamented, indicating a major departure from the geometric forms of earlier periods.
