Saucer

This shallow saucer has an everted rim and is covered with a clear white glaze. There are moulded floral scrolls decorating the exterior of the bowl. This saucerl was acquired in the Philippines and was used as a utility ware.White wares were primarily produced in the kilns of Dehua and Jingdezhen during the Southern Song period (1127-1279) and Yuan dynasty (1279-1368). Exported extensively in Southeast Asia, these white wares were in continuous production from the Song period onwards and became known to the Europeans as ‘blanc de chine’.
