This rare woman’s headcloth is made from black-dyed tightly woven cotton with appliqué bands. It was made and worn as a set of garments from the isolated Ede community (also known as Rade) that live in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The Ede is an Austronesian-speaking sub group of the Cham who settled over a large area of central Vietnam from Hue in the north to Ninh Thuan province in the south of Vietnam. Little is known about the origins of this people. Today they live mainly in Darlac, south Gia Lai and western parts of Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces of Vietnam.
