The God of Earth is a type of territorial god in charge of a specific locale or compound which can range from a tree, residence, office, village or even a graveyard. He functions like a door god, stove god or city god, protecting his designated territory. Depending on the size of the area of which he blesses and protects, he is referred to by different names. If the area is large, he may be referred to by his formal title, Fude Zhengsheng 福德正神. If the area is small, he is usually referred to as Dabogong 大伯公 (Grand Uncle).
