This rectangular-back armchair belongs to a set that includes a similar armchair and a tea table (see 1999-02651-003). It has no projecting crest rail or handgrips, but has a spat at the back. Both the chairs and the table are made of blackwood. The main hall of a traditional household features the largest amount of furniture. A set of chairs with a tea table forms the most common group. Fujian furniture flourished in the 19th century.
