A Malabar Brahmin saying the calendar

This painting shows a lady in consultation with a priest from Malabar, South India. She is wearing a nine-yard sari typical of women in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. She is also wearing three different types of silver anklets. Her red horizontal forehead marking suggests that she could be a Vaishnava or a Shakta woman (a devotee of Vishnu or Durga). The priest is seen to be reading from an old manuscript and conveying something to the lady.
