This distinctively Palembang-style bridal headdress, with foliage motifs embossed on using repoussé and chasing techniques. Palembang exhibited an unusual fusion of Chinese and Hindu-Buddhist courtly traditions. The presence of a Chinese community and the fact that the rulers of Palembang customarily sought their brides from prominent Chinese families led to the inclusion of elements of the traditional Chinese wedding costume, such as this headdress that was modified to suit Islamic brides.
