Headdress finial

This ornament was part of the Peranakan Chinese bridal headdress worn during the wedding rites and belonged to a set of two. The headdress was usually decorated with individual gilt silver ornaments of deity motifs to protect the wearer from malevolent spiritual forces. Different accessories and outfits were required for the 12-day traditional Peranakan wedding ceremony, during which symbolic rites were performed by the bride and groom.
